  He was the fourth child who was named Jan. The ones before him all died within one year - Jan Masereeuw, geb. te Opperdoes 21 Jan 1875, ovl. te Opperdoes 29 Dec 1875 - Jan Masereeuw, geb. te Opperdoes 28 Mar 1876, ovl. te Opperdoes 12 Mar 1877 - Jan Masereeuw, geb. te Opperdoes 29 May 1878, ovl. te Opperdoes 9 Nov 1878 This Jan died one day after his 17th birthday. When he tuned 16 he was given a leatherbound bible with a silver clasp to lock. This bible was then given (inherited) by his younger sister Trijntje (Willem's Oma) who was then almost 14.
