- Niklas.
Nicolaus had a number of siblings. We found church records of baptism and burial, but we could not establish who grew up. In later documents we found references to a sister Kirstin, then living in Vieremä.
It looks reasonable to assume that Nicolaus (ID I10041), his sister Kirstin, and his stepmother Gunila, left the Hiitola area after the Russian occupation in 1710. They moved to the north, into Savo.
Nicolaus (ID I10041) must have married a wife called Helena (no family name or patronym known), who is the mother of Nils (ID I10048), born in 1718. Another son is most likely Hendrik, born before 1715. This Hendrik is found as a soldier in the Savolax Infantry Regiment. He fell in the battle around Lappeenranta on 23 August 1741.
Helena must have died around 1720.
Nicolaus remarries Margareta Kärkkäinen (ID I10044). She is found under a variety of names; in the Family Book she is found as Markareetta Partain.
Their children listed in the Family Book are: Helena* (Vieremä 1725), Cathariina (Vieremä 1726), Paul Frederik (ID I10046 Vieremä 1727) and Maria (ID I10047 Vieremä 1733). We also found a Beata Elisa, born in 1731, most probably also in Vieremä.
* Helena is the first child of Nicolaus Åsenbrygg and Margareta Kärkkäinen. Following classical rules, she should have been named after Nicolaus' deceased first wife, who's name must then be Helena.
** The discovery of this Beate Elisa is our prove that the mother of Nicolaus is Beata Pehrsdr Soika, and not Geske Rötgersdotter Platzman. Her elder sister Cathariina is named after Carin Pardanen, the mother of Margareta Kärkkäinen. Again, following classical rules, Beata Elisa must have been named after the mother of Nicolaus Åsenbrygg. This brings us back to Beata Pehrsdr Soika.
